Triscape FX Foto is a program that you can use to make quick adjustments and additions to your photos. With a few clicks of the mouse you can add frames, text, and more to your photos. In this guide I will show you how to add frames to your photos in Triscape FX Foto. Open your Triscape FX Foto program and we will get started.

The first step of this guide is to open the photo that you want to use. Go to the top left corner of your window and click Add. When the box comes up, click Add again. When the window pops up locate the photo that you want to use. Then click the Open button. That will open your photo in the Triscape FX Foto window.

Go to the top of your window and click the Frame button. That will display your Frame Options at the top of your window. Choose a frame from the window and click the Apply button. If you do not like that frame click Edit > Undo. Then click another frame until you find the one that you like.

If you click on the Color 3D frames you can click on the buttons and change the colors of the frame. You can also create gradient frames for the photo.

If you want to apply a real looking frame do the following. Scroll to the bottom of the list. Click on Skin Image Frame. Then click on the Choose Skin button. When the window opens click on each frame name to see a preview of it in the bottom of the window. When you find the one that you like, click on it and click the Open button. Then click the Apply button in the frame field.

To save the image go to the top of the window and click File > Save Image As. When the box comes up click the Next button. Click the Browse button on the next page and locate where you want to save the image. Then click the Save button. If you want to save it as a jpeg, drop the Save As Type box down and select jpeg or whatever you want to save the image as. Then click the Finish button.

If you don't have Triscape FX Foto you can download it at fxfoto.com. FX Foto allows you to download this product and use it for free for like 30 days. If you decide to buy it you can upgrade your download to the Deluxe Edition for only $39.96. This program is pretty good. The deluxe edition is a lot better than the trial version. You can see what all the deluxe edition offers on their website.

If you have any problems with this Triscape FX Foto tutorial, please feel free to leave me a comment at the bottom of this page.

Maximizing Battery Life on Android Smart Phones

Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 and accessory by Jacky W

Haartrockner kaufen

There have been many arguments saying the downfall of Android will be the fragmentation of the operating system. Android has recently been picking up steam with new phones being announced every week. The problem with the Android operating system is that there are so many different devices and carriers that there are too many versions of the Android operating system out in the wild. Is this going to hurt Android?

The argument that fragmentation will hurt Android is that it will be hard for developers to keep up and have apps that work on all different phones with different operating systems. But when we think about it, how many versions are there of Windows right now for computers? XP is still widely used, with Windows Vista out and also now Windows 7. My argument being that operating system fragmentation is nothing new, and has existed long before Android ever came out.

In reality, the operating system being open is what separates Android from any other cell phone on the market today. With an open source operating system this allows not just Google to work on perfecting the software, pretty much anyone can mod and edit Android for the better. In the Linux world different versions are known as different flavors of Linux. With android there are different roms being created and edited by the community. When a new version of Android is released it is then passed onto the carriers/manufactures who then have to take the Android code and optimize it themselves to work on their individual phones, which can be kind of slow. In the digital age people are used to instant fixes to bugs and easy communication which is hard for big companies as Motorola or Verizon or HTC to provide. Communities are popping up on forums such as alldroid who are taking over development and creating faster custom versions of Android creating even more fragmentation of the Android Operating system. The fragmentation being created is a good fragmentation that gives users choice. For instance when installing the sholes team rom on my Motorola Droid I can pick which features or programs i want to use on my device in essence allowing me to customize everything on my phone. Suing a rom we are pretty much able to create our own customized Android Operating System for ourselves. I believe roms are the future of Android although I believe we got to think of a better name for them (I like Flavors in Linux) but imagine easily rolling your own operating system when you first get your new phone. Right now the roms are getting more and more stable and faster ever week, and the developers will work directly with the community to fix bugs in less then a days time.

I believe roms will really take off when someone creates a one click solution to rooting and flashing an image onto your Android Device. Preferably someone would create a desktop program which you pick all the options for your Android version you want and then with one click instantly roots and flashes it to you device. Once this becomes easy for the every day user to install a rom, with out following 60 step directions Android will take off.

I decided on the Canon A495 as I wanted an inexpensive camera to carry around in my purse for unexpected shots. I purchased the red camera – it’s a deep frosted red with black trim.

This is a good camera for beginners – it’s not DSLR quality but it’s easy to learn and use; it’s not my camera of choice for my shots that I want to look really professional, my Panasonic camera is for those…but for those of you who just want a good basic camera from a well-known camera company, this one should fit your needs well.

Are you trying to decide between the A495 and the next model lower, the A490? Here are the differences:

· The A495 has a Face Self-Timer feature. You can focus on a group of people, and before the camera takes the shot, run over and get into the picture yourself, with your face being detected, too. Of course, you would also need a tripod or a place to set the camera down.

· The A495 has two (2) additional Scene Modes: Poster Effect and Super Vivid Color. Nice to have the additional scenes, but how often will you use them? I plan on making some art for my living room walls with the Poster Effect scene, so I opted for the A495.

· The A495 will focus on up to 9 faces (or areas); whereas the A490 will focus on up to 5 faces (or areas).

You have to decide for yourself if you would be using any of these additional features to save yourself a few dollars by going with the A490 instead of the A495.

PROS:

· Easy to use straight out of the box – I didn’t need to read the manual to start out, but I recommend reading it to learn about all the features

· Fairly durable, even though it’s made of plastic

· Powers up ready to take a picture in about a second

· 2.5″ LCD screen is large enough to see clearly

· Takes great close-up (macro) shots

· Program mode lets you change some settings like exposure compensation, ISO, continuous shooting, metering mode, etc.

· Larger than an ultra-compact camera, so it’s easier to grip and avoid dropping

· Uses AA batteries, and I’m surprised I got over 400 shots from my rechargeable batteries (the alkaline AA batteries included did not last long) – so I recommend rechargeables

· Takes surprisingly good video with sound (not HD) and can be directly uploaded to YouTube (this is part of the included software)

· The ZoomBrowser photo editing software has always been a favorite of mine, I use it with all my cameras, no matter what brand they are. I like this more than Picasa.

CONS:

· Recovery time after taking a picture is SLOW, and even worse if using the flash (approximately 3 seconds w/flash) – this is normal with a camera that uses two AA batteries. It’s still better than the Nikon L20, though.

· No optical image stabilization – but this is rare in any camera at this price point

· No optical viewfinder – again, hard to find now in any camera, but if you want one, check out this Canon: Canon PowerShot A1100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Silver)

· Battery door is flimsy, I have to be careful when closing it so the hinge doesn’t break, and if not careful, the batteries fall out when removing the SD card

· Slightly on the bulky side, won’t fit easily in a shirt pocket, should be OK in a pants pocket

I would have given this camera 5 stars if it wasn’t so darn slow on the recycling time after taking a photo. It flashes “busy” on the LCD screen and it is frustrating when you are waiting to take another shot.

NOTE #1: This camera does not come with an SD card, so pick one up when buying the camera as you will not be able to use it right out of the box otherwise. This camera will accept SDHC cards up to/including 32 GB.

NOTE #2: The PSC-500 genuine Canon case Canon PSC-500 Deluxe Soft Case fits this camera perfectly, but there is no extra room for spare batteries. It’s a snug fit, but it’s well padded too.

NOTE #3: For those of you looking for a camera that can put a date stamp on your pictures, this one does. You have your choice of date only or date and time – or none at all.

Springfield SC announced their Players of the Year for 2009 at their annual banquet last night. With an attendance of well over 500, the club recognized Ian Kennedy (Kickapoo) and Shelby Stewart (Parkview) as their Players of the Year. Chosen for their performance, team impact and sportsmanship, the two join a select group of players who have developed in the program.

Shelby Stewart has signed to play soccer for the Missouri State Bears next Fall. Shelby was featured here early in a report on her signing. Stewart heads into her senior year with the Vikings, where she will be a three year Varsity starter after not playing her freshmen season due to transfer limitations. Stewart scored 25 goals to go along with 11 assists her junior year at Parkview. Her speed and leaping ability are top-tier and will be critical elements in her development as a college player. She just wrapped up the basketball season where she was a starting forward for the Vikings, who lost to District finalists Branson Monday in the first round.

Ian Kennedy has signed to play soccer for the William Jewell Cardinals, a team that is moving from NAIA to Division II in the Fall of 2010, effectively trading Evangel and the HAAC for Drury and the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Joining his former teammate from the two-time State Championship squad, Ryan Squires, Kennedy will likely play a similar role for the Cardinals as he did for SSC. Ian is coming off of the Quarterfinal run the Chiefs made in 2009 where he was the emotional leader that made Kickapoo the top team from the region. He will hone his play this year as a member of the defending MRL Premier Division champions this Spring.

UPDATE: as Prof Richard Garrad notes in the comments, “William Jewell will hopefully be provisionally accepted to Division II during the 2011-12 academic year, and become an active Division II program in 2012-2013″. He’s keeping a closer eye on the program then I since there is another Falcon playing for the Cardinal’s, his daughter Megan. A conversation on Monday with the coaching staff at MO S&T indicated that they are still working on the Fall 2010 schedule because it will include Wm Jewell.

Scotty Lago — Apologize and Go … Or Just Go!

If Scotty Lago didn't volunteer to leave the Olympics, he'd have been told to leave by the U.S. Olympic Committee … this according to sources close to Lago.

Lago offered up an apology after a mildly suggestive photo of him — using his bronze medal for snowboarding to score chicks — popped up on the Internet. He agreed to leave the Olympic Village on his own accord, but sources close to Lago tell TMZ he received an ultimatum from the U.S. Olympic Committee: either say you're sorry and go … or get ejected from the Olympic Village.

As for when we might hear from Lago himself … we're told he's in a “blackout period” — meaning he can't talk about the incident at all until March 3.

A call to the USOC was not returned.

I love my pressure cooker!
Rissotto is amazing — and no stirring. Takes 9 minutes.
Rice, in general, is great in about 3 minutes, plus 5 more to let the steam die.
I've also done hardboiled eggs and they came out with creamy cooked yolks.
Artichokes!
Beans without overnight soaking! I just made navy bean soup and the beans were perfect in 30 minutes.

My pressure cooker is not the old-fashioned “on the stove” type. I have a new model - digital — which feels very safe and sealed. None of those visions of explosion I used to imagine when my grandmother made pot roast.

Oh, and you can do meats. In the summer we like to barbeque ribs. First I get them all fallin-off-the-bone in the pressure cooker (with appropriate spices to taste). Then we slather 'em with bbq sauce and put 'em on the grill. Very nice. I also have a great recipe for “string beef” — either au juice or as a base for many other dishes like tacos (just add seasoning). Same goes for starting carnitas (pork) in the pressure cooker and finishing with spices and placing the stringed pork under the broiler.

Yum!

These convincing looking shots of the new 2010 Audi RS5 have leaked onto the internet a week ahead of the car’s official unveiling at the 2010 Geneva motor show.

Audi RS5: the tech story

The brochure information we’ve seen doesn’t yet spill the tech lowdown on the new RS5. But CAR understands the top-dog A5 will be powered by a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 with around 450bhp and 332lb ft. That’s supported by these scooped photos, revealing a high-revving redline around 8200rpm.

It looks like only an automatic S tronic transmission will be available at first, judging by these pictures. They also suggest that four different alloy wheels options will be offered.

A soft-top version of the Audi RS5 is expected in due course, although Ingolstadt is launching with the more focused, sportier coupé pictured. Prices are set to top £60,000 in the UK.

So where’s this new Audi RS5 leak sprung from?

We were alerted to the Audi RS5 by Autoblog and Ausmotive.com. The leak proves that CAR’s original RS5 cover story scoop from October 2008 (final photo above) was remarkably accurate; Audi hotly denied the existence of plans for a go-faster A5, but we’ll finally see the RS5 for real on 2 March 2010.

It’s yet another example of official embargos being blown wide open, demonstrating the difficulty manufacturers face in keeping their publicity timetables in the leaky internet age. We’ll have the first official news and pictures of the RS5 in the coming days ahead of Geneva.

Seven Awesome Gadgets to Gift the Artsy Photographer

I made new Pics in the last weeks - please tell me when you like them:

Kleine Fische by Joachim S. Müller

more Tell me if you like them - i love to discuss the photos with you!

There are a few of factors you should consider when choosing a photographer. Experience, references, portfolio and equipment are four key notes I would base my decision on.

Looking for a wedding photographer who has the most experience is not always the best choice. Though you do not want to hire somebody who appears to have very little experience, you may want to meet with potential photographers, looking through their portfolio and even asking for references! This will give you an idea what he or she is capable of. When you see a photographer's portfolio, generally you will see the photographers best work. You need a photographer who is not ashamed to show you what their good and bad shots look like, keep in mind that no photographer is perfect and no photographer always gets the shot. Your wedding is only going to happen once, so you want to make sure that you will be get the absolute best when it comes to your pictures.

Though equipment does not equal a great photographer you may want to consider what kind of equipment they use. You would not want your photographer showing up Kodak disposable camera's and expect good quality?? Generally speaking a photographer is going use an SLR camera it could be 35mm or it could digital, they will have accessories like lenses and flashes, tripods and screens. These are tools to make your pictures look amazing and help the photographer achieve the best they can. Don't be afraid to ask questions, any good photographer would expect you too. Find out why your photographer uses certain equipment that he or she does and what it will do for your photographs.

The last thing that was mentioned before is portfolio and references that the photographer should provide. These are so important tools for you as a consumer to know exactly what you are buying. I provide a link to my blog, a link to my web page just for clients who inquire to hire me, if I meet with them I further let them look through my latest works on my lap top portfolio and give them email addresses of clients who are okay with speaking to other people about me and my work. Being a photographer for the last 6 years has been amazing and the trade is all about keeping up and learning more. You need to know that your photographer is going to do an amazing job, though years of experience are great don't mistake that for quality.

Be informed. Know what you are buying. Good Luck

In a deliberate attempt to ridicule a lesbian couple involved in an adoption case, the Florida Family Policy Council used the above-left photo in press materials about the case. The actual couple is on the right. My source tips me that the left photo is the first result one gets when doing a Google search for “ugly lesbians.” Via the Orlando Sentinel's excellent Scott Maxwell:

“Arrogant judicial activism” was how the finger-waggers at Orlando's Florida Family Policy Council described the ruling in an alert it sent out to its members last week. And to make their point about just how frightening this ruling was, the Policy Council included a photograph of the couple — a strange and androgynous-looking duo, one with bleached skin and both with mullet haircuts. The couple look so odd (you literally can't tell whether they are male or female) that one might wonder how any judge could place a young child with such a disturbing-looking duo. Except the judge didn't.

The abnormal-looking couple that the Policy Council chose to illustrate this story is not the same couple granted the right to adopt the child. No, the two-woman couple awarded custody of the 1-year-old — South Florida trade-show executive Vanessa Alenier and her partner, Melanie Leon — look more like J.Crew models: all-American with catalogue clothes and smiles. The picture that the Policy Council chose was a grotesque caricature. These are the dirty tactics of Christianity's far-right warriors. Not the majority of mainstream Christians, mind you. Not those who are focused on caring for their own families and practicing their own faith — but those who are obsessed with homosexuality. These extremists wage their campaigns of intolerance based on deception and misrepresentation. And they have the gall to do it in God's name.

Deception, insults, and petty schoolyard taunts. It's all they have.

Magnum Photo Archive On the Move
10:36 am Friday Feb 5, 2010 by Kelsey Keith

Magnum Photos, the cooperative photography agency established in 1947, has a blue-chip pedigree (founders included Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson) and a gigantic scope (a photojournalism collection amassed from across the globe in the 20th century). The archive comprises more than 180,000 images known as press prints, physical copies once circulated to newspapers and magazines before the digital age. Now the organization is moving forward with a one-two punch: after selling its entire photo archive to a collector, Magnum is recreating itself as an authoritative media entity online. After the jump, view an exclusive slideshow of eight photos from the archive.

Click through for our image gallery courtesy of Magnum Photos.

So, what’s to love about Magnum online? The agency’s digitized image archive includes over 400,000 images online, and multimedia section In Motion contains over 100 photoessays by Magnum photographers, like the recent essay on Haiti before the earthquake and a feature on BBC news program The Shipping Forecast by Mark Power. Photographer Spotlight profiles one of the agency’s professional lensmen at work, and the robust Magnum Store specializes in rare and limited-edition photography books.

Read more about the sale of Magnum’s historical archive to Texas computer tycoon Michael Dell at The New York Times, plus details on the first public exhibition of hundreds of thousands of photo prints.

Android Application To-Do List Review - Superdroid.Net Super List

Game Boy Color Hybrid Cartridge by Redbeard Math Pirate

Read Number 1

I have always used the cell phone that came free with the two year contract. I could not justify spending extra money for bells and whistles when the free phone could make calls and more recently take pictures. That is until my dog ate part of my pebble phone. I tore the phone out of her mouth and realized that it was about time that I treated myself to a cool phone. I work in Information Technology so I convinced myself that it was really a job requirement to have a smart phone. I searched, read reviews and finally decided on the T-mobile G1 with Android.

One of my favorite features of this phone is the ability to download Android Applications. Here are my favorite, free Android Apps for my T-mobile G1 phone.

ShopSavvy - This Android application allows me to scan any barcode so that I can comparison shop. It will show me the item I wish to buy and list places I can buy it locally and on the web. I have found this very handy when buying music CDs as it will show me where I can get them previously used for cheap. ShopSavvy has convinced me that the T-mobile G1 will actually pay for itself with the money I will save through comparison shopping. There have been a few times where it cannot identify a product or inaccurately identifies it but the majority of the time it can accurately displays the item and gives me at least three other places to purchase it.

Astrid - This Android application is a task management tool that allows me to enter to-do lists, set timeframes for tasks, and even set up reminders at the intervals that I choose. This was extremely handy when it came to my most dreaded task, sending out thank you letters. I configured it to bug me every day until I had all of the cards sent out. I was able to mark the progress I had made and hit snooze when I knew I would not work on them for awhile.

The Weather Channel - I love this Android Application because I do not have windows in my office. This lets me know what is going on outside and any other place that I choose. I program the location and The Weather Channel app will tell me what the weather is now and break it down to hourly, 36 hour, and 10 day forecasts.

Mahjongg - What is a smart phone without a cool game? This Android App allows me to play the classic game of Mahjongg anytime. It is perfect for boring train rides, your children's events, or anytime you need to look important.

I will continue to download Android Apps from the Market in my T-mobile G1 phone as long as they are free. And I am definitely keeping this phone out of my dog's reach!

George Eastman invented the camera that was a unique "Kodak" sound when you pressed the shutter button to record the image. George also thought that the letter K is very strong so he quickly discovered the Ko-dak sound.

Photography is something special-the ability to photos, pictures, and she has been at the miracle moments, days, months and years after the collection event.

When it came time to find a name for his unique invention, has George Eastman did not conform to its namefor themselves, not "George" or "Eastman", but on the word "Kodak-hit" and thus the world was introduced at the Kodak camera and they quickly embraced by this new invention.

George Eastman's first camera was made of wood and contains enough film to take atleast 100 pictures. If one were to send him the film, the camera, and he would load the movie a new one for you to unload and then again the camera was ready, the owner-by and by, the trust of the George EastmanPeople with his new light-sensitive film.

When you see the disposable cameras available today (if it can), only a few places we think of the antique Kodak camera by George Eastman, which have a striking similarity between the two. In today's fast was the world if you take those disposable cameras at Kodak, we get back our pictures, but the camera stays with the Kodak Company. It's sad that you do not get to keep the camera.

The antique Kodak cameras are noteasily accessible, perhaps only to collectors who are not part with them easily, or in museums. What one finds at the antique shops are the Letterette Brownie box cameras. the next time a stain, it is important that you closely examine old Kodak camera, the lens is mounted in wood, will allow the finder of the photographer, an image horizontally or take over with the old Kodak camera. You can also succeed in taking a vertical picture, the red-card slot or a windowenabling read the number on the back of the slide.

One can not help but always from the two small tabs at the top of antiquity fascinated Kodak camera is the small rounds of photography time and take your fingernail and drag it to the shutter button and it stays open and it will expose the wooden lens, while pushing that position, with your fingernail under the tab, the larger of the two, a brass plate with a hole in it slides over the lens, which is what we describe how the"Aperture" pull-up bit more and you will opening. a different size hole, another stop-push the tabs back and everything will rediscover its original position.

Shares in almost every major American company on the most active list fell and in some cases fell sharply on the 28th. The stock of Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM), the largest handset chip maker in the world, dropped 14%, after reporting tepid results. Ford (NYSE:F), which released extraordinary quarterly numbers, sold off despite signs that its turnaround continues. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares dropped 4% although there were a number of positive reviews of its new iPad since the product will not affect earnings for several quarters. The market was aware of that before the iPad debuted. Even Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) traded down sharply after the market closed despite posting results that were, at the very least, acceptable.

On the same day, Eastman Kodak (NYSE:EK), once one of America’s great industrial firms but one that has been in ruins since the mid-1990s, had its shares trade up 25% to $5.92. Kodak was an $80 stock in 1995. The firm showed a profit for the fourth quarter of 2009, posting net income of $430 million on revenue of $2.6 billion. The revenue increase was a modest 6% compared to last year. Kodak has never been able to overcome the fact that people do not use film in cameras anymore and that few photographers print their pictures.

Kodak is an example of a company never truly dies if there is one shareholder who believes in it. Investment firm KKR put $700 million in debt into Kodak last year. Other investors were not happy with the arrangement because KKR can take control of 20% of the photo company’s shares by exercising favorably priced warrants.

The people who run KKR did not become billionaires without the possessing astonishing skills that help them to find value in something that appears valueless. KKR figured correctly that Kodak revenues would never go to zero, or even close. And, the company has gone through one of the most brutal series of cost cuts in the history of American corporations. Kodak still does well in the relatively small ink-jet printer market. It has also done a good job collecting licensing fees for its intellectual property, although many of these sales are not recurring.

More important to KKR is that Kodak, which was started in 1892, is, like GM and other old industrial companies, an opportunity to make money on companies that can rapidly cutting costs to match swiftly falling revenue. If there is still a core set of customers to support some revenue at the end of the process, there is money to be made.

Kodak has fired more people over the years than most of the largest companies in the world will ever employ. The firm had over 145,000 workers in 1988. Today Kodak employs barely 20,000 people.

Unfortunately, Kodak’s story matches the employment trends in America over the last 30 years. In the mid-1980s, Kodak was one of the fifty largest companies in the country based on sales. GM, Chrysler, Xerox, and 3M were on that list as well. So were US Steel and Goodyear. It is academic now whether these firms could have kept their competitive positions in the world by more rapidly improving or changing the nature of the products that they sold. Their sales fell, for whatever reasons, precipitously over two decades and there was no choice than to fire huge portions of their workforces or go out of business.

GM found an investor, an unlikely one, in the US government. The No.1 US car company had fired hundreds of thousands of workers and had a weak balance sheet. But, the cost cuts were not enough. Taxpayers own 70% of GM, and the company, with a fraction of its market share from the 1970s and 1980s, is likely to make money and perhaps even pay the government back through an initial public offering of shares in a company that was public for the better part of a century before it was pushed into Chapter 11.

GM will have cut its way to profitability and KKR gambled that Kodak could do the same.

The process of dismantling large US industrial companies may occasionally be profitable for investors like taxpayers and private equity firms, but the American economy may never entirely recover from the trend. The majority of the jobs that Kodak and Goodyear and Chrysler have eliminated will not be replaced because the manufacturing base in the US has grown smaller and will not get much larger again. A Goodyear worker will have to work in a McDonald’s (MCD) for a fraction of his former wage, become permanently unemployed, or need to be re-educated in the hope of finding another line of work that pays well. Millions of Americans has gone through these processes in the past or are going through them now, and their prospects of having good jobs again is poor.

KKR may know how to make money from a floundering company that is prepared to put as many people on the unemployment line as is necessary to operate in the black. But, the economy can’t absorb those jobs. That is one of the reasons that high employment had become a chronic condition, and why KKR makes as much money as it does by finding survivors among the rubble.

Eastman Kodak Company (EK) reported results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2009.

Kodak reported earnings from continuing operations of $439 million, or $1.36 per share, compared to a loss of $914 million or $3.40 per share in the fourth quarter of 2008.  Reported EPS was far above the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.18. Full-year 2009 losses were $232 million or $0.87 versus a loss of $727 million or $2.58 in 2008 and a loss of $1.47 according to the Zacks Consensus Estimate.

Fourth-quarter sales were $2.582 billion, a sequential increase of 45% from the third quarter of 2009 and a 6% increase from the year-ago quarter, including 4% from a favorable foreign exchange impact.

Revenue from digital businesses totaled $1.991 billion, a 12% increase from $1.779 billion in the prior-year quarter, resulting from the combination of an increase in non-recurring intellectual property licensing revenue and increased demand for consumer inkjet printer systems, kiosk media and digital plates. Revenue from the company’s traditional business decreased 10% year over year to $589 million for the fourth quarter due to the reduction in demand across all traditional businesses, particularly Entertainment Imaging.

Full-year revenue totaled $7.606 billion, a 19% decline from 2008. Full-year digital revenue totaled $5.345 billion, a 17% decline from 2008, and traditional revenue totaled $2.257 billion, a 24% decline. These results reflect the recession’s impact on demand, especially in the first half of 2009.

Net cash used in continuing operations from operating activities increased $8 million for the year ended December 31, 2009 compared with the prior year. However, Kodak has a strong balance sheet with net cash of $833 million at the end of December 2009.

During the fourth quarter, the company announced plans to implement a targeted cost reduction program (the 2009 Program) to more appropriately size the organization in view of the current economic environment. The execution of the program began in January 2009. This, along with new product launches, will enable the company grow despite the difficult environment.

Zacks Investment Research

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Eastman Kodak Co. (EK), the remade picture-taking pioneer, broke a series of four straight quarterly losses with a $443 million profit in the last three months of 2009, sending its shares sharply higher.

The earnings reported Thursday indicate Kodak, whose four-year makeover as a digital-photography heavyweight was sucker-punched in 2008 by the economic downturn, may be gathering momentum once again.

Its results in the October-December period were lifted by consumer and commercial inkjet printer sales, leaner costs and big licensing gains from its rich array of digital-imaging inventions.

“Kodak has turned the corner operationally,” said Ulysses Yannas, a broker with Buckman, Buckman & Reid in New York. “What they're doing very successfully is replacing the highly profitable film sales that they're losing with highly profitable” sales of inkjet printers, ink and paper.

“What we have not seen yet is significant profitability from operations excluding intellectual property,” he added. “But it's a lot brighter this year than anybody dreamt it would be.”

Kodak earned the equivalent of $1.40 a share in the fourth quarter, compared with a loss of $918 million, or $3.42 a share, a year earlier. Sales rose 6 percent to $2.58 billion from $2.43 billion.

Kodak said it earned $1.08 a share when one-time items are excluded, handily beating Wall Street forecasts. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected, on average, a much lower profit of 18 cents a share on lower sales of $2.38 billion.

Its shares soared $1.17, or 24.6 percent, to close at $5.92 in Thursday. They are trading in a 52-week range of $2.01 to $7.24.

Kodak said it won't provide 2010 guidance until next week's investor meeting “but it seems likely that consensus estimates could move higher,” Citi analyst Richard Gardner said. Analysts on average expect Kodak to lose 52 cents a share this year.

Kodak drastically cut costs as it underwent a perilous transition from film to digital imaging from 2004 to 2007. Beginning in the fourth quarter of 2008, however, the global economic swoon sapped sales of both digital and film-based photography products.

“Our strategy is working,” Chief Executive Antonio Perez said in a conference call with analysts. “While the global economy has not fully recovered, the level of business activity increased” in the second half of 2009.

“I'm very pleased … with the positive momentum with which we're entering 2010,” Perez said.

The 129-year-old Rochester-based company pared its payroll from 64,000 to 26,900 from 2004 to 2007. It eliminated another 4,100 jobs last year, shrinking its work force to a 1930s-era low of 20,300 from a 1988 peak of 145,300.

Digital sales rose 12 percent to $1.99 billion from $1.78 billion in the quarter, with operating profits jumping to $380 million from a $41 million loss a year earlier.

Traditional film-based revenue fell 10 percent to $589 million from $652 million. Helped by cost reductions and rising sales of movie film, operating profits in the segment rose 36 percent to $53 million.

Kodak said it achieved its target of doubling sales of consumer inkjet printers to more than 2 million in 2009, although that business isn't expected to be profitable until 2011. The company estimates that consumer inkjet overall is a $50 billion market.

Its line of home printers, launched in 2007, produce high-quality photos using inexpensive ink cartridges. Priced about 15 percent higher than comparable printers, they're targeted at consumers who print more pictures on average.

Kodak said its gross profit margin widened to 34.4 percent of sales from 20.4 percent a year earlier. About 6 percentage points of the increase was driven by productivity gains and higher demand for digital plates and thermal paper for retailers, plus productivity gains for digital cameras, consumer printers, electrophotographic printing and traditional photofinishing.

Another 8 points came from nonrecurring intellectual property licensing agreements.

After a yearlong legal tussle, Kodak negotiated royalty paying deals with Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. last month. It followed up in January by suing Apple Inc. (APPL) and Research in Motion Ltd. (RIMM) over digital-camera technology in their iPhone and BlackBerry smart phones.

While Kodak's drive into digital photography was hindered by a reluctance to phase out film — it created the world's first digital camera in 1975 but only began selling mass-market digital cameras in 2001 — it didn't lag behind in research.

Kodak has amassed more than 1,000 digital-imaging patents, and almost all of today's digital cameras rely on that technology. On average, it expects to generate $250 million to $350 million annually through 2011 in licensing fees and royalties from its intellectual property.

It booked $420 million in 2009 and will draw $450 million in payments from Samsung alone this year, possibly in the first quarter.

For all of 2009, Kodak lost $210 million, or 78 cents a share, compared with a loss of $442 million, or $1.57 in 2008. Sales fell 19 percent to $7.6 billion from $9.4 billion. Analysts were expecting a wider loss of $1.47 a share on $7.4 billion in sales.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising for the Xbox 360, Released 20th Oct 2009: An in Depth Review

One of the best features for the Xbox 360 console is the reward system, when the player earn Xbox 360 achievements. This is one of the most unique developments in online gaming. The achievement point system allows the gamer to compete with other Xbox 360 gamers. You can also use your Xbox 360 achievement points at currency in the Xbox Live Marketplace. A player with a lot of achievements has bragging rights over other players in online gaming. This shows them that you have completed a lot of difficult tasks or played a ton of games. There is a certain way to go about racking up a high amount of Xbox 360 achievement points. You must approach earning reward points by using strategy and by playing certain Xbox 360 game titles. This article provides 3 steps to help you find out how to rack up your Xbox 360 achievements and overall score.

Xbox 360 Achievements: Step 1: Cherry Picking With Xbox 360 Games

You must realize that not every achievement is the same. There are many Xbox 360 achievements that are incredibly difficult to get, then there are ones that seem very easy. It is challenging and fun to earn the bigger and more difficult Xbox 360 achievements, but you need to realize that is a time consuming process. This extra time may not be worth it because you could get a bunch more smaller achievements and they would equal the one difficult achievement. If you are all about having a high amount of Xbox 360 achievements under your belt, then it's wiser to go for the fast points. Don't be tricked into playing for a big achievement unless it is actually obtainable. A lot of Xbox 360 gamers will refer to this method as cherry picking.

Xbox 360 Achievements Step 2: Playing The Best Xbox 360 Games For Points

When playing your Xbox 360 console in order to get achievement points, you should try playing more disc-based Xbox 360 games. Games that you can download from the Xbox Live Marketplace don't offer as many Xbox 360 achievements. These downloaded games usually offer about 200 points and Xbox 360 games that are a disc offer about 1000achievements , depending on what game it is. So if you direct your focus to disc Xbox 360 games then this will greatly improve your overall achievement score. When you start playing an Xbox 360 game, open up the achievement list before you start playing game. This achievement list will allow the gamer to see what the tasks are for unlocking Xbox 360 achievements. This will just let you know ahead of time what kind of tasks you need to tackle while playing the Xbox 360 games. Obviously go for the easier achievements first and then move on to bigger ones. Some are ridiculously easy to do but if you didn't look at what they were in the achievement list, then you probably would have never found out.

I personally have racked up a lot of achievement points by playing a lot of sport games. Sport games are ridiculously to jack up your Xbox 360 achievements score. Almost every Xbox 360 games that are sport games are the very best when trying to earn bragging rights for your achievements. I always try to play football, basketball, soccer, and boxing Xbox 360 games. These are the best games to earn a lot of reward points.

Xbox 360 Achievements Step 3: Pick The Best Xbox 360 Games For You

The best way to gain reward points is to play games that you are good at. Gamers usually have certain games that they are better at than other types of games. Some people are better at strategy games, while other people are better with sports games. So just recognize the games that you are good at and get as many games as you can of that type. This will allow you to be gaining Xbox 360 achievements in a quick amount of time. Don't play games that your not so good at and will take a long a time to accomplish gaining points. The best way to gain a lot of reward points in a short amount of time is to play games your good at and go for obtainable achievements.

Review:
I bought this camcorder primarily to videotape my daughter's gymnastics meets. I have recorded two so far and the video quality for those is excellent. The lighting in both cases was bright flourescent lighting like you would find in a high school gymnasium. I made a brief test video in my kitchen at night with just one light on and it wasn't so great. I don't know if this would be a great camcorder for birthday parties and that sort of thing. For that you would be better off getting a camera with 720 HP like the Panasonic DMC-FZ35 for less than half the price. It takes great video in a variety of lighting, but it cannot handle some of the very fast action of gymnastics without blurring. But that's another review!

Pros:

- Very large (120gb) built-in hard drive.
- Available SD/SDHC memory card slot.
- Great video in bright indoor or outdoor light - the same video quality as the HDC-HS300 that costs over $1000.
- Very easy to use - my 8-year-old was taking pictures and videos and playing them back with no instructions.
- Video is very easy to import to iMovie '09 on my iMac - I just attach it using the included usb cable and a window comes up allowing me to choose the clips I want to import.
- The image stabilization works well - smooth footage without a tripod.
- Zoom is very smooth and adequate.
- Great price if you can get it for under 600 dollars.
- Display shows how much battery life (in minutes) and how much recording time is remaining.

Cons:

- Lacks an electronic viewfinder and an external microphone jack - to get those you need the HDC-H300.
- Probably not great for low light indoors.
- The battery charger/AC adapter are a bit strange but you can live with it - you have to remove the battery to put in the AC/Adapter but the battery will not charge while you are using the adapter.
- Battery life is not very long (about 90 minutes) and extra batteries are pricey - this is the case for most HD camcorders.
- Like probably every HD camcorder, the included software is not so great (although I don't need it for my iMac) and you will have to invest in expensive software to edit the video using a Windows PC.

I researched extensively and for my needs this is by far the best camcorder for the price. It would also be great for videotaping any sports, including indoor sports like basketball.

[CES 2010] With the popularity of the 3D version of Avatar, a lot of people are going to be taking 3D movies more seriously now, and Panasonic looks like it’s in a good position to capitalize on that, thanks to its newly announced twin-lens full HD 3D camcorder. It sports twin-lenses (obviously) and dual memory card slots, allowing you to capture 3D footage immediately, without all the hassle of doing it the traditional way. Even better, its recording medium is SDHC memory cards, helping you lower the cost. That being said, the device itself is more than pocket change, as it’s going for $21,000, though that’s not too bad if you’re doing some big budget film, it’s probably more than Joe Average can afford. The Twin-lens Full HD 3D camcorder will be available in Q4 of 2010, and Panasonic is also looking to release a 3D Full HD LCD monitor for use in the field, and a digital mixer for live 3D broadcasting shortly after.

If you already own a Full HD camcorder but you’re looking to push your film making into the third dimension you’ll doubtless have significant interest in the newly unveiled Panasonic Full HD 3D Camcorder which just gained its debut at CES – though, of course, you’ll need a fair bit of spare cash laying around (or an extremely accommodating bank manager) to have the privilege of filming Full HD 3D films (some $21 to be exact).

Panasonic’s Official Press Release:

PANASONIC UNVEILS WORLD’S FIRST INTEGRATED FULL HD 3D CAMCORDER AT CES 2010

Available In Fall 2010 – Solid-State Recording System Will Offer Highly-Efficient Full HD 3D Video Production

LAS VEGAS, NV (January 6, 2010) – Panasonic Corporation (NYSE: PC) will release the world’s first* professional, fully-integrated Full HD 3D camcorder in Fall 2010. The company will begin taking orders in April.  Engineering samples of the professional Full HD 3D solid-state camcorder will be exhibited at the Panasonic booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, Main Hall, #9405) at the 2010 International CES in Las Vegas, USA, from January 7-10.

This Full HD 3D camcorder will offer the following core benefits:

Easier to Use

Current 3D systems are large-scale setups in which two cameras are fitted to a rig in parallel, or vertically intersect across a half-mirror. Separate recorders are also required. In Panasonic’s new Full HD 3D camcorder, the lenses, camera head, and a dual Memory Card recorder are integrated into a single, lightweight body.  The camcorder also incorporates stereoscopic adjustment controls making it easier to use and operate.

The twin-lens system adopted in the camcorder’s optical section allows the convergence point** to be adjusted. Functions for automatically correcting horizontal and vertical displacement are also provided.  Conventional 3D camera systems require these adjustments to be made by means of a PC or an external video processor. This new camcorder, however, will automatically recalibrate without any need for external equipment, allowing immediate 3D image capture.

More Flexible

The solid-state memory file-based recording system offers greater flexibility to produce Full HD 3D videos in more challenging shooting environments. The camcorder is lighter weight and smaller than current 3D rigs, while providing the flexibility of handheld-style shooting. Setup and transportation is simplified, making it ideal for sports, documentary and filmmaking projects.

Solid-State Reliability and Workflow

Right and left Full HD video streams of the twin-lens 3D camcorder can be recorded as files on SDHC/SD Memory Cards, ensuring higher reliability than on other tape, optical disc, HDD or other mechanical-based recording systems. This solid-state, no-moving-parts design will help significantly reduce maintenance costs, and the 3D camcorder will be better able to perform in extreme environments and be more resistant to temperature extremes, shock, and vibration.

And users will enjoy a fast, highly-productive file-based workflow, with instant, random access to recorded content; easy plug-in to both Mac and PC-based platforms; and longer recording capacity.

More Affordable

Using a standardized, fully integrated design, the Full HD 3D camcorder will be offered at a much lower price than traditional 3D rigs. Transportation expenses for this handheld unit will be less and faster setup times reduce labor costs. Using standard, re-recordable SDHC/SD Memory Cards available already everywhere, media costs become almost insignificant.

In addition to a camcorder, Panasonic also plans to offer a professional-quality 3D Full HD LCD monitor for field use as well as a professional HD digital AV mixer for live event production. Panasonic will offer professional production equipment to allow video professionals to efficiently create 3D content, so consumers can enjoy 3D video using Panasonic 3D home theater systems.

Development Background

Movie companies and content producers are eager to produce more 3D content. 3D video is set to become a mainstream motion picture technology. In response to the resurgence of 3D movies, in September 2009, Panasonic proposed the world’s first 3D home theater systems, based around 3D-enabled Blu-ray Disc players and Plasma TVs (announced and exhibited at CEATEC 2008). In February 2009, the company established the Advanced Authoring Center (within Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory) – at which 3D movies are authored for replication on 3D Blu-ray Discs (announced at CES 2009). Currently, producing 3D movies is a painstaking process. Panasonic intends to promote the production of high-quality 3D video content by accelerating the development of 3D video production systems designed to boost production speed and efficiency.
